# Glossary

### Welcome to Converlens! As you explore the platform, you might come across some unfamiliar terms unique to our features. This glossary is your go-to resource for understanding the common terminology you'll find on Converlens.

## A/B/C

### Admin

The workspace or project member with full access to the relevant controls, configuration settings, and management features. Admins can manage user permissions, adjust settings, and manage the project or workspace areas available to them, including surveys, team members, page settings, and configuration settings.

### Block

An element used in the survey or data space builder to add and organise content. Blocks come in various types, including those for different question formats (e.g., multiple-choice, text), as well as for content like media, emails, postcodes, and more. Blocks allow users to structure and customise the survey or data collection space according to their needs.

### Charts

A visual representation of the data collected or created from a data space or survey. Charts provide a way to display insights through various formats such as graphs, tables, word clouds, or maps.

### Code

An analysis tool used to categorise and interpret qualitative data. A code refers to a specific part of the data that an analyst has highlighted for its relevance or significance. These highlighted sections, known as "codes," help identify themes, patterns, or insights during the analysis process. In qualitative analysis, codes are used to structure and make sense of large volumes of textual data.

## D/E/F

### Data

The results obtained from your survey or any imported information. In Converlens, data encompasses all inputs that flow through your data space and are displayed in your Explore>Results view, providing insights and analytics based on participant responses.

### Data Space

A designated area for organising and managing the data related to your project. Each survey you create in Converlens is considered a data space, and even imported data from external sources can be its own data space (i.e. “Town Hall” or “Roundtable discussions”). A data space serves as the source of your information, encompassing questions, blocks, and responses, much like a document or spreadsheet that contains all relevant details for a specific data gathering exercise.

### Field

Individual components within a survey or data collection form where specific information is input or captured. Each field corresponds to a particular type of data, such as text responses, multiple-choice options, numerical entries, or date selections. Fields are essential for structuring the survey, guiding participants in providing their answers, and organising the information collected within the data space.

### Filter

A tool used in the Explore, Chart, and Present sections to refine and limit your view of data based on specific criteria. By applying a filter, you can display only the responses that match the selected parameters, allowing for more focused analysis and insights from your data. Filters help streamline the review process by enabling you to concentrate on relevant subsets of your results.

## G/H/I

### Highlight

A tool used in analysis to emphasise specific sections of text responses by grouping them into tags, labels, or "codes." Highlights allow users to easily categorise and review these selected portions of text as distinct blocks, facilitating a more organised and focused analysis of qualitative data. This feature helps in identifying themes or important insights within the responses, streamlining the review process.

## J/K/L

### Logic

A feature that controls the flow of participants through a survey by determining how questions are presented based on their previous responses. Logic options include display logic, which shows or hides questions based on specific criteria; skip logic, which directs respondents to different questions based on their answers; and skip backwards logic, allowing participants to revisit earlier questions if necessary. This functionality enhances the survey experience by creating a tailored path for respondents.

### Longform

A term used to describe text-based responses that are detailed and extensive in nature. This includes formal written submissions, comprehensive text answers, policy proposals, and other lengthy documents. Longform data often requires specific qualitative analysis approaches, such as highlighting and coding, to effectively interpret and analyse the content.

## M/N/O

### Members

Individuals who have access to the backend of your project or consultation within Converlens. Members are typically part of your team and can be added to your workspace to collaborate on data collection, analysis, and project management.

## P/Q/R

### Project

A container within a workspace that typically represents a consultation or engagement initiative. A project can include multiple data spaces (or surveys), allowing for diverse data collection efforts under a unified theme. Users can add or remove members specifically for that project, enabling tailored collaboration and management of resources related to the project’s objectives.

### Present

The project area where teams create, edit, and share reports. Present brings together charts, response summaries, commentary, and report filters so findings can be packaged for internal or external audiences.

### Response

The answers or input provided by a participant in a survey or data collection initiative. A response corresponds to the specific answers provided by an individual, reflecting their input for the survey or data collection initiative. It represents the entirety of the information gathered from that participant for a given inquiry.

### Results

The compilation of all inputs received in response to a survey or data space. Results encompass the collective data gathered, providing insights and information that reflect the responses of all participants.

## S/T/U/V

### Seat

A designated position or access right within a workspace that allows a member to participate in a project or consultation. Each seat represents the ability to engage with the platform's features, such as creating surveys, analyzing data, or collaborating with team members.

### Submission

A formal term often used in government and policy contexts, referring to the answers or input provided by a participant in a survey or data collection initiative. In Converlens, "submission" is interchangeable with "response," both representing the data contributed by an individual respondent relating to the survey or data source.

### Survey

A structured data collection tool designed to gather information, opinions, or feedback from participants. In Converlens, a survey comprises a series of questions or prompts (blocks) aimed at soliciting responses from participants. Surveys can be distributed to collect quantitative or qualitative data, and the insights gained are used for analysis, reporting, and decision-making purposes.

### Tag

Response (or record) level labels applied during the analysis process to identify key topics or themes within a response. Tags help categorise and organise data, making it easier to locate and analyse specific insights.

### User

Any individual who engages with the Converlens application, whether they are members of a project team, participants in surveys, or administrators. Users interact with the platform's features to create, manage, and analyse surveys, contributing to the overall data collection and analysis process.

## W/X/Y/Z

### Workspace

The primary organisational unit within Converlens that houses projects, teams, contacts, messages, and workspace-level settings.
