A matrix block is a question type that allows participants to provide multiple responses in a grid-like format, where they can select options for multiple rows and columns, often used for rating or comparing multiple items. The Matrix block options are:
  • Require a response: Toggle on/off to require respondents to submit an answer to this question block
  • Randomise order: Toggle on/off to enable/disable randomisation of the matrix options.
  • Matrix type: Dropdown menu provides 3 options for the matrix (scale) type:
    • Single choice: A single-choice scale allows respondents to select only one scale or rating option per row or column within the matrix, indicating their preference, agreement, or response for each specific item individually.
    • Checkbox: A checkbox scale allows respondents the flexibility to select multiple scale or rating options per row or column within the matrix, indicating their preferences, agreements, or responses for each specific item in a non-exclusive manner.
    • Number: A number scale allows respondents to provide numeric ratings or values per row or column within the matrix, allowing them to quantify their preferences, evaluations, or responses for each specific item using numerical values.

Edit title and description

To edit the title in the block click on the Add optional content title… title section in the block in the Survey editor column. To add further details in the block click on the Description or details (optional)… text section in the block in the Survey editor column.

Adding choices

To add choices there are two options:
  • Add
    • Click on +Add and type each option 1 by 1 in the Choice Text box
  • Bulk Add
    • Click on +Bulk Add to add multiple choices at once. This will open a pop out box where you can enter each choice for the block separated by a new line per choice. When complete, click the Add choices button and remember to Save your changes before moving onto the next block.

Adding scales

To add scales there are two options:
  • Add
    • Click on +Add and type each option 1 by 1 in the Choice Text box
